The science behind eliminating the idea of waste

Currently only 9% of the world’s waste is recycled, but there is no scientific reason why we couldn't convert and repurpose all the waste we generate; the only barrier is the economic cost of processing it. New Jersey-based TerraCycle are a recycling specialist and sustainability consultancy whose mission is to eliminate the idea of waste by working out how to deal with products and materials that are harder to recycle.  Their motto is “we can recycle anything,” and they help major brands assess and implement recycling & sustainability policies throughout their organizations.

CEO and founder Tom Szaky looks at our attitudes towards waste and the economics of recycling, while Global VP of Research and Development Ernie Simpson looks at the science behind converting difficult waste like plastic number 7 into useful materials.
