Global Farm Metric

The Sustainable Food Trust was one of the contributors to this common framework for sustainability in food and farming

Almost half of the world’s habitable land is now farmed to feed our global food production system. The general consensus is that what happens on this land will significantly determine our biodiversity, climate, and health.

The Global Farm Metric, a coalition of over 130 organizations, intends for the outcome to be positive by establishing a framework for developing resilient and sustainable farm systems. It starts with farmers, establishing a common language to help them understand, measure, and monitor the environmental, social, and economic state of their farms. This framework extends to food businesses, certifiers, banks, and governments, ensuring that every part of the system works cooperatively.
